An experiment and an advocate for the necessity to hold screenings anywhere and everywhere.

Background

Inspired by the ethos of teach-ins to keep sharing and educating each other through times of grief and distress, OPEN CINEMA is a living document that serves as a screening room, educational tool kit, or DIY manual for anyone who wishes to host their own film screening as a starting point for learning together.

OPEN CINEMA is committed to building communities outside of institutional frameworks, especially when these institutions have repeatedly done harm to marginalized voices while simultaneously capitalizing on their alterity.

OPEN CINEMA is invested in nourishing people and communities by encouraging greater access to the moving image.

OPEN CINEMA believes in the power of cinema to inform, educate, and illuminate voices that would otherwise be less heard, and the power of these voices should not belong to the festival world alone.

OPEN CINEMA is an experiment and an advocate for the necessity to hold screenings anywhere and everywhere.
